FAQ

  • Who will I see at FCMHC?

All our clinicians are doctoral trainees in clinical psychology at Fordham University. Every case is supervised by licensed clinical psychologists. Due to our small size, we cannot always accommodate requests to see a clinician of a given gender, race/ethnicity, or other background.

  • Do you prescribe medication?

No, we do not offer psychiatric services and cannot prescribe or refill medication. However, we can collaborate with outside medical providers to help you manage that side of your treatment while receiving services from us.

  • How much do you charge?

We bill using a sliding scale that takes into consideration annual income and number of dependents supported. For psychotherapy services, fees range from $5-60 per session. For assessments services, we charge a flat fee of $500. Certain specialty services may be offered at no charge to those in need.

  • Do you take insurance?

No, we do not accept any forms of insurance. And because our services are delivered by student clinicians, out-of-network benefits typically cannot be applied to our services.

  • How long does treatment last?

Psychotherapy sessions typically occur weekly and are roughly 45-50 minutes long. We do not impose session limits at FCMHC, so treatment lasts as long as you and your therapist feel is indicated. An exception is the TARGET program, which is designed to take place in a limited number of sessions. Psychological assessments vary depending on your specific needs but typically are completed within 60 days. The timeline of forensic evaluations will vary depending on the specifics of the case.

  • Will my information be confidential?

Your privacy is paramount to us. As psychologists and psychologists-in-training, we are bound by powerful ethical and legal guidelines to keep your information protected. Educating you on the nature of confidentiality within FCMHC is also an important part of the intake process, known as “informed consent,” to ensure that you understand how your information will be treated before you begin working with us.

  • I'm a student at Fordham University. Can I receive services at FCMHC?

No, FCMHC serves the Bronx community outside of the Rose Hill campus except under special circumstances. Current students should always first contact Fordham’s Counseling and Psychological Services (CPS) for treatment options and referrals.

  • I don't live or work in The Bronx. Can I receive services at FCMHC?

Yes, though Bronx residents are prioritized for psychotherapy services. Psychological assessment, forensic assessment, and specialty clinic services are also open to all New York residents.

  • How do I schedule an appointment?

Step 1: Contact us to schedule your phone screen call.

Step 2: During the phone screen, we will ask for information to help us determine how we can best meet your needs.

Step 3: Once we review your information, we will reach out to plan your first intake appointment or, if the clinic is not a good fit for your needs, provide you with appropriate referrals.
